Freewill Offerings for the Father's House
29 1 Then David the king said to all the assembly: "Solomon my son, the one whom our Father has chosen, is young and tender, and the work is great; for the temple is not for man but for our Father. 2 With all my strength I have provided for the house of my Father — the gold for the things of gold, the silver for the silver, the bronze for the bronze, the iron for the iron, the wood for the wood, onyx stones, stones for setting, stones of antimony and of various colors, all kinds of precious stones, and marble in abundance. 3 Moreover, because I have set my heart on the house of my Father, I give my own treasure of gold and silver to the house of my Father, over and above all that I have provided for the holy house: 4 about 112 tons of gold, of the gold of Ophir, and about 262 tons of refined silver, to overlay the walls of the buildings, 5 gold for the things of gold and silver for the things of silver, and for all the work to be done by the hands of craftsmen. Now who will offer willingly, consecrating himself today to our Father?"
6 Then the leaders of the fathers' houses, the leaders of the tribes of Israel, the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and the officials over the king's work offered willingly. 7 They gave for the service of the house of our Father about 188 tons and ten thousand darics of gold, about 375 tons of silver, about 675 tons of bronze, and about 3750 tons of iron. 8 And whoever had precious stones gave them to the treasury of the house of our Father, in the care of Jehiel the Gershonite. 9 Then the people rejoiced because they had given willingly, for with a whole heart they had offered freely to our Father; and David the king also rejoiced with great joy.
David's Prayer of Praise to the Father
10 Therefore David blessed our Father in the presence of all the assembly. And David said: "Blessed are you, the Father of our father Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. 11 Yours, our Father, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for everything in the heavens and on the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, our Father, and you are exalted as head above all. 12 Both riches and honor come from you, and you rule over all. In your hand are power and might, and it is in your hand to make great and to give strength to all. 13 And now, our Father, we give thanks to you and praise your glorious name. 14 But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly as this? For everything comes from you, and from your own hand we have given to you. 15 For we are strangers before you and sojourners, as all our fathers were. Our days on the earth are like a shadow, and there is no hope of remaining. 16 O our Father, all this abundance that we have provided to build you a house for your holy name comes from your hand, and all of it is yours. 17 I know, my Father, that you test the heart and delight in uprightness. In the uprightness of my heart I have freely offered all these things, and now I have seen your people who are present here offering to you with joy. 18 O our Father of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, our fathers, keep this forever as the purpose and intention in the hearts of your people, and direct their hearts toward you. 19 And give to Solomon my son a whole heart to keep your commandments, your testimonies, and your statutes, to do all these things, and to build the temple for which I have made provision."
20 Then David said to all the assembly, "Bless now your Father." And all the assembly blessed the Father of their fathers, and they bowed their heads and prostrated themselves to our Father and to the king.
Solomon Anointed King Before the Father
21 And they sacrificed sacrifices to our Father and offered burnt offerings to our Father on the next day — a thousand bulls, a thousand rams, a thousand lambs, with their drink offerings, and sacrifices in abundance for all Israel. 22 And they ate and drank before our Father on that day with great gladness. They made Solomon the son of David king a second time, and they anointed him as prince for our Father, and Zadok as priest.
23 Then Solomon sat on the throne of our Father as king in place of David his father. He prospered, and all Israel obeyed him. a a v23 Israel's king sat on a throne that belonged to our Father — the kingdom was our Father's own reign carried out on earth. This throne finds its true and lasting King in Jesus, the son of David. 24 All the leaders and the mighty men, and also all the sons of King David, pledged their allegiance to King Solomon. 25 And our Father made Solomon exceedingly great in the sight of all Israel and bestowed on him such royal majesty as had not been on any king before him in Israel.
The Reign and Death of King David
26 Thus David the son of Jesse reigned over all Israel. 27 The days that he reigned over Israel were forty years. He reigned seven years in Hebron and thirty-three years in Jerusalem. 28 Then he died at a good old age, full of days, riches, and honor; and Solomon his son reigned in his place. 29 Now the acts of King David, from first to last, are written in the records of Samuel the seer, in the records of Nathan the prophet, and in the records of Gad the seer, 30 with all his reign and his might, and the events that came upon him and upon Israel and upon all the kingdoms of the lands.
