Israel Tears Down Every Idol
31 1 When all this was finished, all the Israelites who were present went out to the towns of Judah and shattered the sacred pillars, cut down the Asherah poles, and tore down the high places and the altars throughout all Judah and Benjamin, and in Ephraim and Manasseh, until they had destroyed them all. Then all the Israelites returned to their own towns, each to his own property.
2 Hezekiah assigned the divisions of the priests and the Levites, division by division, each according to his service—the priests and the Levites alike—for burnt offerings and peace offerings, to minister, to give thanks, and to praise in the gates of our Father's camps.
3 The king contributed from his own possessions for the burnt offerings: the morning and evening burnt offerings, and the burnt offerings for the Sabbaths, the new moons, and the appointed feasts, as written in the law of our Father. 4 He also ordered the people living in Jerusalem to give the portion due the priests and the Levites, so that they could devote themselves to the law of our Father. 5 As soon as the order went out, the Israelites generously gave the firstfruits of grain, new wine, oil, honey, and all the produce of the field; and they brought in a generous tithe of everything. 6 The Israelites and Judahites who lived in the towns of Judah also brought the tithe of cattle and sheep, and the tithe of the holy things set apart to our Father, and they piled them in heaps.
7 In the third month they began to pile up the heaps, and they finished in the seventh month. a a v7 The third month falls in late May–June; the seventh month in September–October — about four months of giving. 8 When Hezekiah and the officials came and saw the heaps, they blessed our Father and his people Israel. 9 Hezekiah asked the priests and Levites about the heaps. 10 And Azariah the chief priest, from the house of Zadok, answered him, "Since the people began to bring the contributions into the house of our Father, we have had enough to eat and plenty to spare, for our Father has blessed his people, and this great abundance is what is left over."
11 Then Hezekiah ordered them to prepare storerooms in the house of our Father, and they prepared them. 12 They faithfully brought in the contributions, the tithes, and the dedicated gifts. Conaniah the Levite was the chief officer in charge of them, and Shimei his brother was second. 13 Jehiel, Azaziah, Nahath, Asahel, Jerimoth, Jozabad, Eliel, Ismachiah, Mahath, and Benaiah were supervisors under the direction of Conaniah and Shimei his brother, by appointment of King Hezekiah and Azariah the chief officer of the house of our Father. 14 Kore son of Imnah the Levite, keeper of the East Gate, was in charge of the freewill offerings given to our Father, to distribute the contributions of our Father and the most holy gifts. 15 Under him, Eden, Miniamin, Jeshua, Shemaiah, Amariah, and Shecaniah were stationed in the priestly towns to faithfully distribute to their fellow priests by divisions, to great and small alike, 16 besides distributing to the males listed in the genealogical records, from age three and older—everyone who entered the house of our Father for daily service—for their service according to their offices and divisions. 17 The priests were listed by their family groups, and the Levites from age twenty and older, according to their duties and divisions. 18 They were listed with all their little ones, their wives, their sons, and their daughters—the whole community—for they faithfully kept themselves holy. 19 And for the priests, the descendants of Aaron, who lived in the open pasturelands around their towns, men were appointed by name in each and every town to distribute portions to every male among the priests and to everyone listed among the Levites.
20 This is what Hezekiah did throughout all Judah. He did what was good and right and faithful before our Father. 21 In everything he undertook—in the service of the house of our Father, and in the law and the commandment, seeking our Father—he gave his whole heart to it, and he prospered.
