2 Kings 15

15 ¹In Jeroboam king of Israel's twenty-seventh year, Azariah son of Amaziah king of Judah became king. ²He became king at sixteen and reigned fifty-two years in Jerusalem. His mother was Jecoliah of Jerusalem. ³He did right in our Father's eyes, as his father Amaziah had done. ⁴But the high places remained; the people still sacrificed and burned incense there. ⁵Our Father struck the king, so he had a skin disease until his death, living in a separate house. Jotham the king's son ran the household, governing the land's people. ⁶The rest of Azariah's acts, all he did—are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah? ⁷Azariah rested with his ancestors and was buried with them in the city of David, and his son Jotham reigned in his place.

Zechariah's Brief Reign in Israel

⁸In year thirty-eight of Azariah king of Judah, Zechariah son of Jeroboam reigned over Israel in Samaria six months. ⁹He did evil in our Father's eyes, as his ancestors had. He did not turn from the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, who made Israel sin. ¹⁰Shallum son of Jabesh conspired against him, struck him before the people, killed him, and reigned in his place. ¹¹The rest of Zechariah's acts are written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel.

¹²This was our Father's word spoken to Jehu: "Your sons will sit on Israel's throne to the fourth generation." And so it happened.

Shallum's One Month in Israel

¹³Shallum son of Jabesh became king in Uzziah of Judah's thirty-ninth year, and reigned one month in Samaria. ¹⁴Menahem son of Gadi came up from Tirzah to Samaria, struck down Shallum son of Jabesh there, killed him, and reigned in his place. ¹⁵The rest of Shallum's acts, and the conspiracy he made, are written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel.

¹⁶At that time Menahem sacked Tiphsah with everyone in it and its territory, from Tirzah on, because they would not open to him; he sacked it and ripped open all its pregnant women.

Menahem Reigns Over Israel

¹⁷In Azariah king of Judah's thirty-ninth year, Menahem son of Gadi became king over Israel, reigning ten years in Samaria. ¹⁸He did evil in our Father's eyes. All his days he never turned from the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, who made Israel sin. ¹⁹Pul king of Assyria came against the land, and Menahem gave him about thirty-eight tons of silver to gain Pul's support in strengthening his own hold on the kingdom. ²⁰Menahem exacted the money from Israel, from all the wealthy men—about one.Two pounds of silver each—to give the king of Assyria. Pekahiah Reigns Over Israel

²³In Azariah king of Judah's fiftieth year, Pekahiah son of Menahem began to reign over Israel in Samaria, reigning two years. ²⁴He did evil in our Father's eyes. He did not turn from the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, who made Israel sin. ²⁵Pekah son of Remaliah, his officer, conspired against him and struck him down in Samaria, in the citadel of the king's house, with Argob, Arieh, and fifty Gileadites. He killed him and reigned in his place. ²⁶The rest of Pekahiah's acts, all he did, are written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel.

Pekah Reigns Over Israel

²⁷In Azariah king of Judah's fifty-second year, Pekah son of Remaliah began reigning over Israel in Samaria, twenty years. ²⁸He did evil in our Father's eyes. He did not turn from the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, who made Israel sin. ²⁹When Pekah ruled Israel, Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria came and took Ijon, Abel-beth-maacah, Janoah, Kedesh, Hazor, Gilead, and Galilee—all Naphtali's land—deporting its people to Assyria. ³⁰Then Hoshea son of Elah conspired against Pekah son of Remaliah, struck him down, killed him, and reigned in his place, in Jotham son of Uzziah's twentieth year. ³¹The rest of Pekah's acts, all he did, are written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel.

Jotham Reigns Over Judah

³²In the second year of Israel's King Pekah son of Remaliah, Jotham son of Uzziah began his reign over Judah. ³³He became king at twenty-five and reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. His mother was Jerusha, daughter of Zadok. ³⁴He did right in our Father's eyes, as his father Uzziah had done. ³⁵But the high places stayed; the people still sacrificed and burned incense there. He built the upper gate of our Father's house. ³⁶The rest of Jotham's acts, all he did—are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah? ³⁷In those days our Father began sending Rezin king of Aram and Pekah son of Remaliah against Judah. ³⁸Jotham rested with his ancestors, buried with his ancestors in the City of David his father, and Ahaz his son reigned in his place.
