The Father Judges Tyre
Tyre profits from Jerusalem's ruin, expecting more trade now the gate is broken. Our Father says nations will come against her like waves. Nebuchadnezzar will breach her walls, her stones will be dumped in the sea, and the site left bare rock for drying nets.
26 1In year eleven, on the first of the month, our Father's word came to me:
2Son of man, because Tyre said against Jerusalem, 'Aha! The gate of the peoples is broken, swung open to me. She lies in ruins; I will grow rich.' 3So the Sovereign Father says: Look, I am against you, Tyre. I will bring many nations up against you, like the sea bringing up its waves. 4They will destroy Tyre's walls and tear down her towers; I will scrape her soil away and leave her a bare rock. 5She will become a place to spread nets in the sea, for I have spoken, declares the Sovereign Father. She will become plunder for the nations, 6and her mainland villages killed by the sword. Then they will know that I am the Father.
7This is what the Sovereign Father says: Look, I am bringing Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, king of kings, against Tyre from the north, with horses, chariots, horsemen, and a great army of many troops. 8He will kill your mainland villages with the sword, set a siege wall against you, raise a ramp against you, and lift shields against you. 9He will pound your walls with his battering rams and tear down your towers with his axes. 10His horses so many their dust covers you. Your walls shake at the noise of horsemen, wagons, and chariots when he enters your gates like men entering a city whose walls are broken open. 11His horses' hooves will trample all your streets. He will kill your people with the sword, and your strong pillars will fall to the ground. 12They will plunder your wealth, loot your goods, break down your walls, and destroy your fine houses, throwing your stones, timber, and rubble into the sea. 13I will silence your noisy songs; your lyres will be heard no more. 14I will make you bare rock, a place to spread nets. You will never be rebuilt, for I, the Father, have spoken, declares the Sovereign Father.
15This is what the Sovereign Father says to Tyre: Won't the coastlands shake at the sound of your fall, when the wounded groan, when slaughter fills you? 16Then all the sea's rulers will step down from their thrones, lay aside their robes, and remove their embroidered garments. Clothed in trembling, they will sit on the ground, shuddering every moment, appalled at you. 17They will raise a lament over you: 'How you have perished, city renowned, you who were peopled from the seas—mighty on the sea, you and your residents, who spread terror over all who lived there!' a a v17 Tyre was a wealthy island city-state whose power and population were built on sea trade. 18Now the coastlands tremble on the day of your fall; the islands in the sea are dismayed at your passing.
19This is what the Sovereign Father says: When I make you a desolate city, like cities long abandoned, when I raise the deep over you and the great waters cover you, 20then I will bring you down with those who go down to the pit, to the people of long ago. I will settle you in the earth below, among ancient ruins, with those who go down to the pit, so you will not return or take your place in the land of the living. 21I will bring you to a dreadful end, and you will be no more. You will be sought but never found again, declares the Sovereign Father.
