The Father Judges Edom's Ancient Hatred
Edom, on Mount Seir, kept an ancient hatred and handed Israel over to the sword on the day of disaster, then claimed the two emptied lands as its own. Our Father answers that Edom will be the empty one, and permanently.
35 1The word of our Father came to me:
2Son of man, set your face against Mount Seir and prophesy against it. 3Say to it: This is what the Sovereign Father says: "Look, I am against you, Mount Seir. I will stretch my hand against you and make you a desolation and waste. 4I will lay your cities in ruins, and you will become a desolation. Then you will know that I am the Father.
5Because you held an ancient hatred and gave the people of Israel over to the sword at the time of their disaster, at the time their final punishment came," 6so as I live, declares the Sovereign Father, I will hand you over to bloodshed, and bloodshed will pursue you. Since you did not hate bloodshed, bloodshed will pursue you. 7"I will make Mount Seir a desolate waste and cut off from it all who come and go. 8I will fill its mountains with the slain; on your hills, valleys, and all your ravines those killed by the sword will fall. 9I will make you desolate forever; your cities will stay empty. Then you will know that I am the Father.
10Because you said, 'These two nations, these two lands will be mine; we'll take them'—though our Father was there," 11therefore, as I live, declares the Sovereign Father, I will treat you as your anger and envy deserve, which you showed in hating Israel, and I will make myself known among Israel's people when I judge you.
12Then you will know I am the Father. I have heard all your contempt against Israel's mountains: "They are wasted, given us to devour." 13You boasted against me with your mouth and heaped up your words against me; I heard it. 14This is what the Sovereign Father says: While the whole earth rejoices, I will make you desolate. 15As you rejoiced because the house of Israel's inheritance was desolate, so I will do to you. You will be desolate, Mount Seir, all Edom, all of it. Then they will know that I am the Father.
