The Father Speaks Against Gog
Gog of Magog is turned around by hooks in his jaws and drawn against a resettled, unwalled land he plans to loot. Merchants ask whether he has come for plunder. Our Father says the invasion is his own doing, and the earth itself will shake.
38 1The word of our Father came to me:
2Son of man, set your face against Gog, of the land of Magog, chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him. 3Say: This is what the Sovereign Father says: "I am against you, Gog, chief prince of Meshech and Tubal. 4I will turn you around, put hooks in your jaws, and bring you out with your whole army—horses and horsemen, all fully armored, a vast horde with large and small shields, every one wielding a sword. 5Persia, Cush, and Put are with them, all of them equipped with shields and helmets; 6Gomer with all its troops, and Beth-togarmah from the far north with all its troops—many peoples with you.
7Be ready; prepare yourself, you and all the hordes gathered around you, and be their guard. 8After many days you will be summoned. In the latter years you will invade a land recovered from war, whose people were gathered from many nations onto Israel's mountains, long in ruins. Brought out from the nations, they now all live securely. 9You will advance, sweeping in like a storm, like a cloud covering the land—you and all your troops, and many peoples with you."
10This is what the Sovereign Father says: "On that day thoughts will come to your mind and you will plot an evil scheme. 11You will say, 'I will march against a land of open villages; I will attack a peaceful people living securely, all of them without walls, bars, or gates,' 12to seize spoils and plunder, to attack the resettled ruins and the people gathered from the nations, who have acquired livestock and goods and live at the earth's center. 13Sheba, Dedan, and the merchants of Tarshish with all its young lions will ask you, 'Have you come to seize spoil? Have you gathered your horde to loot—to take silver and gold, seize livestock and goods, carry off great spoil?'"
14So prophesy, son of man, and tell Gog: This is what the Sovereign Father says: "On that day, when my people Israel live securely, will you not know it? 15You will come from your place in the far north, you and many peoples with you, all riding horses—a great horde, a mighty army. 16You will come up against my people Israel like a cloud covering the land. In the last days I will bring you against my land, Gog, so the nations know me when I show myself holy through you before their eyes."
17This is what the Sovereign Father says: Are you the one I spoke of long ago through my servants Israel's prophets, who prophesied for years back then that I would bring you against them? 18On that day, when Gog attacks the land of Israel, declares the Sovereign Father, my hot anger will flare up. 19"In my jealousy and the fire of my anger I declare: on that day a great earthquake will strike the land of Israel. 20The fish of the sea, birds of the sky, beasts of the field, every creature crawling on the ground, and every person on earth will tremble at my presence. Mountains will be thrown down, cliffs will collapse, and every wall will fall to the ground." 21I will summon a sword against Gog on all my mountains, declares the Sovereign Father; every man's sword will turn against his brother. 22"I will judge him with plague and bloodshed; I will pour torrents of rain, hailstones, fire, and sulfur on him, his troops, and the many peoples with him. 23So I will show my greatness and holiness and make myself known before many nations. Then they will know I am the Father."
