Genesis 5

5 ¹ This is the written record of Adam's descendants. When our Father created humankind, he made them in the likeness of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. ² He created them male and female, and he blessed them and named them Humankind in the day they were created. ³ When Adam had lived 130 years, he fathered a son in his own likeness, after his own image, and named him Seth. ⁴ After he fathered Seth, Adam lived 800 years and had other sons and daughters. ⁵ Altogether, Adam lived 930 years, and then he died.

⁶ When Seth had lived 105 years, he fathered Enosh. ⁷ After he fathered Enosh, Seth lived 807 years and had other sons and daughters. ⁸ Altogether, Seth lived 912 years, and then he died.

⁹ When Enosh had lived 90 years, he fathered Kenan. ¹⁰ After he fathered Kenan, Enosh lived 815 years and had other sons and daughters. ¹¹ Altogether, Enosh lived 905 years, and then he died.

¹² When Kenan had lived 70 years, he fathered Mahalalel. ¹³ After he fathered Mahalalel, Kenan lived 840 years and had other sons and daughters. ¹⁴ Altogether, Kenan lived 910 years, and then he died.

¹⁵ When Mahalalel had lived 65 years, he fathered Jared. ¹⁶ After he fathered Jared, Mahalalel lived 830 years and had other sons and daughters. ¹⁷ Altogether, Mahalalel lived 895 years, and then he died.

¹⁸ When Jared had lived 162 years, he fathered Enoch. ¹⁹ After he fathered Enoch, Jared lived 800 years and had other sons and daughters. ²⁰ Altogether, Jared lived 962 years, and then he died.

²¹ When Enoch had lived 65 years, he fathered Methuselah. ²² After he fathered Methuselah, Enoch walked faithfully with our Father 300 years and had other sons and daughters. ^a a v22 Enoch's life is summarized as walking with our Father — a closeness so real that our Father took him home without ever facing death. Hebrews 11:5 says Enoch pleased our Father by faith. ²³ Altogether, Enoch lived 365 years. ²⁴ Enoch walked faithfully with our Father; then he was gone, because our Father took him. ^b b v24 Enoch did not die like the others in this chapter; our Father took him home directly. The New Testament confirms he was taken up without seeing death (Hebrews 11:5).

²⁵ When Methuselah had lived 187 years, he fathered Lamech. ²⁶ After he fathered Lamech, Methuselah lived 782 years and had other sons and daughters. ²⁷ Altogether, Methuselah lived 969 years, and then he died.

²⁸ When Lamech had lived 182 years, he fathered a son. ²⁹ He named him Noah, saying, "He will comfort us in the labor and painful toil of our hands, because of the ground our Father has cursed." ^c c v29 Lamech names his son Noah — meaning "rest" — and prophesies that this child will bring comfort from the painful toil our Father pronounced in Eden. The hope of un-doing the curse begins to speak here, generations before Christ. ³⁰ After he fathered Noah, Lamech lived 595 years and had other sons and daughters. ³¹ Altogether, Lamech lived 777 years, and then he died.

³² When Noah was 500 years old, he fathered Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
