The Father Exposes a False Prophet
28 1 Now in that same year, at the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the fourth year, in the fifth month, Hananiah son of Azzur, the prophet from Gibeon, spoke to me in the house of our Father, in the presence of the priests and all the people. He said: 2 "This is what the LORD of heaven's armies, the God of Israel, says: I have broken the yoke of the king of Babylon. 3 Within two years I will bring back to this place all the vessels of the house of the LORD that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon took from this place and carried to Babylon. 4 And I will bring back to this place Jeconiah son of Jehoiakim king of Judah, and all the exiles of Judah who went to Babylon, declares the LORD, for I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon."
5 Then Jeremiah the prophet answered Hananiah the prophet in the presence of the priests and all the people standing in the house of our Father. 6 Jeremiah the prophet said: "Amen! May our Father do so. May he confirm the words you have prophesied, by bringing back the vessels of the house of our Father and all the exiles from Babylon to this place. 7 But listen now to this word I am speaking to you and to all these people: 8 The prophets who came before me and before you from ancient times prophesied war, disaster, and plague against many lands and great kingdoms. 9 As for the prophet who prophesies peace, only when the word of that prophet comes true will it be known that our Father has truly sent him."
10 Then Hananiah the prophet took the yoke-bar off the neck of Jeremiah the prophet and broke it, 11 and Hananiah said in the presence of all the people, "This is what the LORD says: In the same way, within two years I will break the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon off the neck of all the nations." And Jeremiah the prophet went on his way.
12 After Hananiah the prophet had broken the yoke-bar off the neck of Jeremiah the prophet, the word of our Father came to Jeremiah:
13 "Go and tell Hananiah: This is what our Father says: You have broken bars of wood, but in their place you will make bars of iron. 14 For this is what the Father of heaven's armies, our Father of Israel, says: I have put an iron yoke on the neck of all these nations to make them serve Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and they will serve him. I have even given him the wild animals.
15 Then Jeremiah the prophet said to Hananiah the prophet, "Listen now, Hananiah! Our Father has not sent you, yet you have made this people trust in a lie.
16 Therefore this is what our Father says: I am about to send you off the face of the earth. This very year you will die, because you have preached rebellion against our Father."
17 And Hananiah the prophet died that same year, in the seventh month.
