Joshua 13

13 ¹Joshua was old, far along in years, and our Father said to him, "You are old, far along in years, and very much land still remains to be taken. ²This is the land that remains: all the Philistine regions, and all the Geshurite territory, ³from the Shihor east of Egypt north to Ekron's border (counted as Canaanite); the five Philistine rulers—of Gaza, Ashdod, Ashkelon, Gath, and Ekron—and the Avvites, ⁴in the south, all the Canaanite land, and Mearah of the Sidonians, as far as Aphek, to the Amorite border; ⁵and the land of the Gebalites, all Lebanon eastward, from Baal-gad below Mount Hermon to Lebo-hamath. ⁶All who live in the hill country from Lebanon to Misrephoth-maim, all the Sidonians—I myself will drive them out before the people of Israel. Only allot the land to Israel as an inheritance, as I commanded you. ⁷So divide this land as an inheritance among the nine tribes and the half-tribe of Manasseh."

Inheritance East of the Jordan

⁸With the other half-tribe, the Reubenites and Gadites had received their inheritance, which Moses gave them beyond the Jordan to the east, just as Moses the servant of our Father gave them: ⁹from Aroer on the edge of the Arnon Valley, the city in the valley's middle, and all the plateau from Medeba to Dibon; ¹⁰and all the cities of Sihon king of the Amorites, who ruled in Heshbon, up to the Ammonite border; ¹¹and Gilead, the territory of the Geshurites and Maacathites, all Mount Hermon, and all Bashan up to Salecah; ¹²all Og's kingdom in Bashan, who reigned in Ashtaroth and Edrei—the last survivor of the Rephaim. Moses defeated Og and drove out his people. ¹³But the Israelites did not drive out the Geshurites or Maacathites, so Geshur and Maacath live among Israel to this day. ¹⁴Only to the tribe of Levi he gave no inheritance; the fire offerings to our Father, the God of Israel, are their inheritance, as he promised them. ^a a v14 Levi alone received no land, because the priests' true portion is our Father himself — closeness to him, not territory, is their inheritance.

¹⁵Moses gave an inheritance to the tribe of the children of Reuben according to their clans. ¹⁶Their territory ran from Aroer on the edge of the Arnon Valley, with the city in the valley's middle, and all the plateau by Medeba; ¹⁷Heshbon and all its cities on the plain—Dibon, and Bamoth-baal, and Beth-baal-meon, ¹⁸and Jahaz, and Kedemoth, and Mephaath, ¹⁹and Kiriathaim, and Sibmah, and Zereth-shahar on the hill above the valley, ²⁰and Beth-peor, and the slopes of Pisgah, and Beth-jeshimoth, ²¹and all the cities of the plain, and all the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, whom Moses defeated with the leaders of Midian—Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba—Sihon's princes living in the land. ²²Israel's people also killed Balaam son of Beor, the fortune-teller, with the sword, among their slain. ²³The Reubenites' border was the Jordan and its bank. This was the Reubenites' inheritance by clans—the cities and their villages.

²⁴Moses gave the tribe of Gad, the children of Gad, an inheritance by their clans. ²⁵Their territory: Jazer, all the cities of Gilead, half the Ammonites' land as far as Aroer, east of Rabbah, ²⁶and from Heshbon to Ramath-mizpeh and Betonim, and from Mahanaim to the border of Debir, ²⁷and in the valley: Beth-haram, Beth-nimrah, Succoth, and Zaphon—the rest of the kingdom of Sihon king of Heshbon, the Jordan and its bank, to the edge of the Sea of Chinnereth beyond the Jordan eastward. ^b b v27 Chinnereth is an ancient name for the Sea of Galilee. ²⁸This is the inheritance of Gad's descendants by clan: the cities and their villages.

²⁹Moses gave the half-tribe of Manasseh an inheritance, for the half-tribe of Manasseh's descendants by their clans. ³⁰Their territory ran from Mahanaim: all Bashan, all the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, and all Jair's towns in Bashan, sixty cities; ³¹and half of Gilead, with Ashtaroth and Edrei, Og's royal cities in Bashan, to the descendants of Machir son of Manasseh—half the Machirites by their clans.

³²These are the inheritances Moses distributed in the plains of Moab, beyond the Jordan east of Jericho. ³³Moses gave the tribe of Levi no inheritance; our Father, the God of Israel, is their inheritance, as he promised them.
