The Father's Inheritance for Ephraim
Ephraim's boundary is walked from Jericho up through the hill country to the sea, with extra towns granted inside Manasseh's share. The entry ends with an admission: the Canaanites in Gezer were never driven out, only put to forced labor.
16 1The lot for Joseph's descendants ran from the Jordan at Jericho, east of its waters, into the wilderness rising from Jericho through the hill country to Bethel. 2It went from Bethel to Luz, on to the Archite border at Ataroth. 3It went down westward to the border of the Japhletites, to the border of Lower Beth-horon, to Gezer, and ended at the sea.
4So the descendants of Joseph—Manasseh and Ephraim—received their inheritance. 5Ephraim's descendants had this territory by clans: their eastern border ran from Ataroth-addar to Upper Beth-horon. 6The border went to the sea, with Michmethath on the north; it turned east to Taanath-shiloh, passing east of it to Janoah. 7Then it went down from Janoah to Ataroth and Naarah, reached Jericho, and ended at the Jordan. 8From Tappuah the border went west to the Brook of Kanah, ending at the sea. This is the inheritance of the tribe of Ephraim's descendants, by their clans. 9Ephraim's descendants also had towns set apart within the inheritance of Manasseh's descendants—all the towns with their villages. 10But they did not drive out the Canaanites in Gezer; the Canaanites still live among Ephraim to this day, forced into labor.
