The Glory of Our Father Appears
On the eighth day Aaron offers for himself and then for the people, exactly as ordered. He blesses them, and the glory of our Father appears — fire comes out and consumes the offering, and the whole people shout for joy and fall on their faces.
9 1On the eighth day Moses called Aaron and his sons and the elders of Israel. 2He told Aaron, "Take a bull calf for yourself as a sin offering, a ram as a burnt offering, both without defect, and offer them before our Father. 3Tell the Israelites: Take a male goat for a sin offering, and a yearling calf and lamb, without defect, for a burnt offering. 4An ox and a ram for a peace offering, to sacrifice before our Father, plus a grain offering mixed with oil—for today our Father will appear to you."
5They brought what Moses commanded to the tent of meeting's entrance; the whole assembly drew near and stood before our Father. 6Moses said, "Do what our Father commanded, so the glory of our Father will appear to you." 7Moses told Aaron, "Come to the altar. Offer your sin offering and burnt offering, atone for yourself and the people. Offer the people's offering and atone for them, as our Father commanded."
8So Aaron approached the altar and slaughtered the sin-offering calf, which was for himself. 9Aaron's sons brought him the blood; he dipped his finger in it, put it on the altar's horns, and poured the rest at its base. 10But he burned the sin offering's fat, kidneys, and liver lobe on the altar, as our Father commanded Moses. 11He burned the flesh and the skin with fire outside the camp. 12He killed the burnt offering. Aaron's sons handed him the blood, and he splashed it against the altar's sides. 13They handed him the burnt offering in pieces, with the head, and he burned them on the altar. 14He washed the intestines and legs, burning them on the altar with the burnt offering. 15Then he brought the people's offering: took their sin-offering goat, slaughtered it, and offered it for sin, like the first. 16He presented the burnt offering and offered it as prescribed. 17He brought the grain offering, took a handful, and burned it on the altar, besides the morning burnt offering. 18He slaughtered the ox and the ram, the people's peace offering sacrifice, and Aaron's sons brought him the blood, which he threw against the altar's sides. 19But the fat of the ox and ram: the fat tail, fat covering, kidneys, and long liver lobe, 20they placed the fat portions on the breasts, and he burned the fat portions on the altar. 21But Aaron waved the breasts and the right thigh as a wave offering before our Father, as Moses had commanded. 22Aaron raised his hands toward the people and blessed them, then came down from making the sin, burnt, and peace offerings.
23Moses and Aaron entered the tent of meeting, came out, and blessed the people; the glory of our Father appeared to all the people. 24Fire came from our Father's presence and consumed the burnt offering and fat on the altar. All the people saw it, shouted for joy, and fell facedown. a a v24 The fire that fell and consumed the offering was our Father's own answer — his visible acceptance of the atonement made on the people's behalf, drawing them near to him.
