Nehemiah 10

10 ¹ Now those who set their seal to it were: Nehemiah the governor, son of Hacaliah, and Zedekiah, ² Seraiah, Azariah, Jeremiah, ³ Pashhur, Amariah, Malchijah, ⁴ Hattush, Shebaniah, Malluch, ⁵ Harim, Meremoth, Obadiah, ⁶ Daniel, Ginnethon, Baruch, ⁷ Meshullam, Abijah, Mijamin, ⁸ Maaziah, Bilgai, and Shemaiah. These were the priests. ⁹ And the Levites: Jeshua son of Azaniah, Binnui of the sons of Henadad, Kadmiel, ¹⁰ and their fellow Levites: Shebaniah, Hodiah, Kelita, Pelaiah, Hanan, ¹¹ Mica, Rehob, Hashabiah, ¹² Zaccur, Sherebiah, Shebaniah, ¹³ Hodiah, Bani, and Beninu. ¹⁴ The leaders of the people: Parosh, Pahath-moab, Elam, Zattu, Bani, ¹⁵ Bunni, Azgad, Bebai, ¹⁶ Adonijah, Bigvai, Adin, ¹⁷ Ater, Hezekiah, Azzur, ¹⁸ Hodiah, Hashum, Bezai, ¹⁹ Hariph, Anathoth, Nebai, ²⁰ Magpiash, Meshullam, Hezir, ²¹ Meshezabel, Zadok, Jaddua, ²² Pelatiah, Hanan, Anaiah, ²³ Hoshea, Hananiah, Hasshub, ²⁴ Hallohesh, Pilha, Shobek, ²⁵ Rehum, Hashabnah, Maaseiah, ²⁶ Ahiah, Hanan, Anan, ²⁷ Malluch, Harim, and Baanah.

The People Bind Themselves to the Father

²⁸ The rest of the people — the priests, the Levites, the gatekeepers, the singers, the temple servants, and all who had separated themselves from the peoples of the surrounding lands for the sake of the law of our Father, together with their wives, their sons, and their daughters, everyone who had the knowledge and understanding ²⁹ —all these now joined their fellow nobles and bound themselves with a curse and an oath to follow the law of our Father, given through Moses his servant, and to keep and obey all the commands of our Sovereign Father, his rulings and his statutes. ³⁰ We promise not to give our daughters in marriage to the peoples around us or take their daughters for our sons. ³¹ When the peoples of the land bring goods or any grain to sell on the Sabbath, we will not buy from them on the Sabbath or on any holy day. Every seventh year we will let the land rest and cancel every debt.

³² We also commit to giving about an eighth of an ounce of silver each year for the service of the house of our Father: ³³ for the bread set out before him, the regular grain offering, the regular burnt offering, the offerings for the Sabbaths, the new moons, and the appointed feasts, the holy gifts, and the sin offerings to make atonement for Israel — for all the work of the house of our Father. ³⁴ We — the priests, the Levites, and the people — have cast lots for the wood offering, to bring it into the house of our Father by our families at the appointed times each year, to burn on the altar of our Father, as it is written in the law. ³⁵ We also promise to bring the firstfruits of our soil and the firstfruits of all the fruit of every tree, year by year, to the house of our Father. ³⁶ We will also bring to the house of our Father, to the priests who minister there, the firstborn of our sons and of our livestock, as it is written in the law, and the firstborn of our herds and flocks. ³⁷ We will bring the first of our ground meal, our contributions, the fruit of every tree, and the new wine and the oil to the priests, to the storerooms of the house of our Father; and we will bring the tithes of our soil to the Levites, for it is the Levites who collect the tithes in all the towns where we work. ³⁸ A priest, a descendant of Aaron, will be with the Levites when they receive the tithes, and the Levites will bring a tenth of these tithes up to the house of our Father, to the storerooms of the treasury. ³⁹ For the people of Israel and the Levites are to bring the contributions of grain, new wine, and oil to the storerooms where the articles of the sanctuary are kept, where the ministering priests, the gatekeepers, and the singers also are. We will not neglect the house of our Father.
