Numbers 15

15 ¹Our Father spoke to Moses, saying:

²"Speak to the Israelites and tell them: When you enter the land I am giving you to live in, ³and offer me a fire offering—a burnt offering or sacrifice, to fulfill a special vow, as a freewill offering, or at your appointed feasts—producing a pleasing aroma for me from herd or flock, ⁴then whoever presents his offering must also present me a grain offering—about two quarts of fine flour mixed with about one quart of oil. ⁵Prepare about a quart of wine for the drink offering with the burnt offering or sacrifice, for each lamb.

⁶"Or for a ram, you are to prepare a grain offering of about four quarts of fine flour mixed with about one and a third quarts of oil, ⁷and one and a third quarts of wine for the drink offering—offer it as a pleasing aroma to me. ⁸When you prepare a young bull as a burnt offering or sacrifice, to fulfill a special vow, or as a peace offering to me, ⁹with the young bull, bring a grain offering of about six quarts of fine flour mixed with about two quarts of oil, ¹⁰bring two quarts of wine for the drink offering, a fire offering of pleasing aroma to me. ¹¹This is to be done for each bull, ram, lamb, or young goat. ¹²Do the same for each one, however many you prepare.

¹³"Every native-born Israelite must do this when offering a fire offering, a pleasing aroma, to me. ¹⁴If a foreigner living with you, or anyone among you for generations to come, makes a fire offering of pleasing aroma to me, he must do as you do. ¹⁵One statute for the assembly—you and the foreigner living among you—a lasting statute for all generations: as you are, so is the foreigner before me. ¹⁶One law and one ordinance is to apply to you and to the foreigner who stays with you."

¹⁷And our Father spoke to Moses, saying:

¹⁸"Speak to the Israelites and tell them: When you enter the land I am bringing you into, ¹⁹then when you eat the produce of the land, you are to lift up a contribution to me. ²⁰From the first of your dough, lift up a loaf as a contribution, like the contribution from the threshing floor. ²¹From the first of your dough you are to give a contribution to me throughout your generations.

Our Father Covers Unintentional Sin

²²"And when you stray and fail to do all these commandments that I have spoken to Moses, ²³all I commanded you through Moses, from the day I commanded it, and onward throughout your generations, ²⁴then if done unintentionally, unknown to the assembly, the whole assembly must offer one young bull as a burnt offering—a pleasing aroma to me—with its grain offering and drink offering as required, plus one male goat as a sin offering. ²⁵The priest will make atonement for the whole Israelite community, and they will be forgiven, since it was unintentional and they brought their offering—a fire offering to me—and their sin offering before me for their unintentional wrong. ²⁶All the community of Israel will be forgiven, along with the foreigner living among them, since all the people did wrong unintentionally.

²⁷"And if one person sins unintentionally, he is to offer a year-old female goat as a sin offering. ²⁸The priest will atone before me for the person who errs by sinning unintentionally, atoning for him, and he will be forgiven. ²⁹For the native-born among the children of Israel and the foreigner staying among them, there is one law for the one who acts unintentionally.

³⁰"But the one who acts with a high hand, native or foreigner, reviles me—that person is cut off from among his people. ³¹Since he scorned my word and broke my command, that person will surely be cut off; his guilt remains on him."

Sabbath Defiance and Its Consequence

³²While the Israelites were in the wilderness, they found a man gathering wood on the Sabbath day. ³³Those who found him gathering wood brought him to Moses, Aaron, and the whole congregation. ³⁴They held him in custody because it wasn't clear what should be done to him.

³⁵So our Father told Moses, "The man must be put to death; the whole community must stone him outside the camp."

³⁶The whole congregation brought him outside the camp and stoned him with stones; he died, as our Father commanded Moses.

Tassels to Remember Our Father

³⁷And our Father said to Moses, saying:

³⁸"Speak to the Israelites: have them make tassels on the corners of their garments for all generations, with a blue cord on each corner's tassel. ^a a v38 Tassels — knotted fringes worn on the corners of the garment — were a daily, visible reminder to live by our Father's commands; faithful Israelites wore them for centuries. ³⁹It will be a tassel to look at, so you remember all my commandments and do them, not chasing after your heart and after your eyes, which lead you to be unfaithful. ⁴⁰This way you will remember and do all my commandments, and you will be holy to me. ⁴¹I am your Father, who brought you out of Egypt's land to be your Father. I am your Father."
