John 11

Chapter 11.

11 ¹One man wey im name na Lazarus dey sick, e come from Bethany, di village of Mary and im sister Martha. ²Na dis Mary — wey im brother Lazarus dey sick — rub sweet-smell oil for di Oga body, come use im hair take dry im leg. ³So di sisters send message give am, talk say, “Oga, di person wey you love dey sick.”

⁴Wen Jesus hear dis, e talk say, “Dis sickness no go end for death, but na for di glory of our Papa, so dat di Pikin of our Papa go get glory through am.”

⁵Now Jesus love Martha and im sister and Lazarus. ⁶So wen e hear say Lazarus dey sick, e still stay two more days for di place wey e dey.

⁷After dis, e tell im disciples say, “Make we go back go Judea.”

⁸Di disciples tell am say, “Rabbi, na just now di Jew people wan stone you, and you dey go back dia again?”

⁹Jesus answer say, “Abi no be twelve hours dey inside di day? Anybody wey waka for daytime no go stumble — e dey see di light of dis world.” ¹⁰But if person waka for night, e go stumble, because di light no dey inside am. ¹¹After dis, e tell dem say, “Our friend Lazarus don sleep, but I dey go wake am.”

¹²So di disciples tell am say, “Oga, if e don sleep, e go beta.” ¹³Now Jesus bin dey talk about im death, but dem think say na ordinary sleep e mean.

¹⁴So Jesus come tell dem clear-clear say, “Lazarus don die, ¹⁵I dey happy for una sake say I no dey dia, so dat una go believe. But make we go meet am.”

¹⁶So Thomas, wey dem dey call di Twin, tell di oda disciples say, “Make we go too, make we die with am.”

¹⁷So wen Jesus reach, e see say Lazarus don dey inside di grave four days already. ¹⁸Bethany dey near Jerusalem, like two miles away, ^a a v18 Fifteen stadia na like two miles (about 3 km). ¹⁹and plenty of di Jew people don come meet Martha and Mary to console dem about dia brother. ²⁰Wen Martha hear say Jesus dey come, e go meet am; but Mary sidon for house. ²¹Martha tell Jesus say, “Oga, if you bin dey here, my brother no for die.” ²²“But even now, I know say anytin wey you ask our Papa, e go give you.”

²³Jesus tell am say, “Your brother go rise again.”

²⁴Martha tell am say, “I know say e go rise again for di resurrection for di last day.”

²⁵Jesus tell am say, “Na me be di resurrection and di life. Anybody wey believe for me go live, even if e die,” ²⁶and everybody wey dey live and believe for me no go ever die. You believe dis?”

²⁷E tell am say, “Yes, Oga; I believe say na you be di Christ, di Pikin of our Papa, di one wey dey come into di world.”

²⁸After e talk dis, e go call im sister Mary for secret say, “Di Teacher don come — e dey call you.” ²⁹Wen Mary hear dis, e stand up quick-quick come go meet am. ³⁰Jesus never enter di village; e still dey for di place wey Martha meet am. ³¹Di Jew people wey dey with am for house, wey dey comfort am, see Mary stand up quick-quick comot; dem follow am, dem think say e dey go di grave go cry dia. ³²Mary come meet Jesus, see am, fall for im leg, come talk say, “Oga, if you bin dey here, my brother no for die.”

³³Wen Jesus see am dey cry, and di Jew people wey come with am dey cry too, e groan for im spirit come dey troubled.

³⁴E come talk say, “Wia una put am?” Dem tell am say, “Oga, come see.”

³⁵Jesus cry.

³⁶So di Jew people talk say, “See as e love am!” ³⁷But some of dem talk say, “Dis man wey open di blind man eye, e no for fit stop dis one make e no die?”

³⁸So Jesus, wey im belle move am well-well again, come reach di grave — na cave wey dem put stone for di mouth.

³⁹Jesus talk say, “Comot di stone.” Martha, di sister of di man wey die, tell am say, “Oga, e don dey smell now — na four days e don die.”

⁴⁰Jesus tell am say, “I no tell you say: if you believe, you go see di glory of our Papa?”

⁴¹So dem comot di stone. Jesus look up come talk say, “Papa, I thank you say you hear me.” ⁴²I know say you dey always hear me, but na because of di crowd wey stand here I talk dis one, so dat dem go believe say na you send me. ⁴³Wen e don talk dis, e shout with loud voice say, “Lazarus, comot!”

⁴⁴Di man wey die comot, dem don tie im leg and hand with strips of linen cloth, and dem wrap im face with cloth. Jesus tell dem say, “Loose am; make e go.”

Di Council Gather

⁴⁵So plenty of di Jew people wey come meet Mary and see wetin Jesus do, believe for am. ⁴⁶But some of dem go meet di Pharisee people go tell dem wetin Jesus don do. ⁴⁷So di chief priests and di Pharisee people gather di council say, “Wetin we dey do, as dis man dey do plenty signs?” ⁴⁸“If we leave am like dat, everybody go believe for am, and di Roman people go come take away our place and our nation.”

⁴⁹But one of dem, Caiaphas, wey be high priest for dat year, tell dem say, “Una no know anytin at all.” ⁵⁰Una no see say e beta for una make one man die for di people pass make di whole nation perish? ⁵¹E no talk dis one by imsef; as e be high priest for dat year, e prophesy say Jesus go die for di nation, ⁵²no be only for di nation, but also to gather di pikin dem of our Papa wey scatter come be one. ^b b v52 Caiaphas talk beta pass wetin e sabi. Jesus go die no be just for di Jewish nation, but to gather every pikin of our Papa wey scatter come be one family. ⁵³So from dat day, dem begin plan how dem go take kill am. ⁵⁴So Jesus no dey waka openly again among di Jew people, but e comot go one town wey dem dey call Ephraim near di wilderness, come stay dia with im disciples.

⁵⁵Di Passover of di Jew people don near, and plenty people go up from di village dem go Jerusalem before am to purify dem sef. ⁵⁶So dem dey look for Jesus, dey ask each oda as dem stand for inside di temple, “Wetin you think? E no go come di feast at all?” ⁵⁷Di chief priests and di Pharisee people don command say anybody wey know wia e dey must report am, so dat dem go fit arrest am.
