Psalms 21

21 ¹ O our Father, in your strength the king rejoices; in your salvation how greatly he exults! ² You have given him his heart's desire and have not withheld what his lips asked of you. Selah ³ For you came to meet him with rich blessings; you set a crown of pure gold on his head. ⁴ He asked you for life, and you gave it to him — length of days forever and ever. ^a a v4 The Davidic king's gift of "life forever and ever" reaches its fullness in Jesus, the risen King whom death could not hold. ⁵ His glory is great through your salvation; you bestow splendor and majesty on him. ⁶ Surely you have granted him unending blessings and made him glad with the joy of your presence. ⁷ For the king trusts in our Father; through the unfailing love of the Most High, our Father, he will not be shaken.

⁸ Your hand will capture all your enemies; your right hand will seize those who hate you. ⁹ When you appear you will make them like a blazing furnace. Our Father will swallow them up in his wrath, and his fire will consume them. ¹⁰ You will destroy their offspring from the earth, their children from among the human race. ¹¹ Though they plot evil against you and devise a scheme, they cannot succeed. ¹² For you will make them turn their backs when you aim your arrows at their faces.

¹³ Be exalted, O our Father, in your strength! We will sing and praise your power.
