The Father Sets Apart Levi's Priestly Line
Levi's line is traced through Aaron to the priest who went into exile, then through the singers David appointed for our Father's house. The tribe with no land inheritance is given forty-eight towns scattered inside everyone else's territory.

The sons of Aaron: Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. 4Eleazar fathered Phinehas, Phinehas fathered Abishua, 5Abishua fathered Bukki, Bukki fathered Uzzi, 6Uzzi fathered Zerahiah, Zerahiah fathered Meraioth, 7Meraioth fathered Amariah, Amariah fathered Ahitub, 8Ahitub fathered Zadok, Zadok fathered Ahimaaz, 9Ahimaaz fathered Azariah, Azariah fathered Johanan, 10Johanan fathered Azariah, who served as priest in the temple Solomon built in Jerusalem. 11Azariah fathered Amariah, Amariah fathered Ahitub, 12Ahitub fathered Zadok, Zadok fathered Shallum, 13Shallum fathered Hilkiah, Hilkiah fathered Azariah, 14Azariah fathered Seraiah, and Seraiah fathered Jehozadak. 15Jehozadak went into exile when our Father sent Judah and Jerusalem away through Nebuchadnezzar.
16The sons of Levi: Gershom, Kohath, and Merari. 17These are the names of the sons of Gershom: Libni and Shimei. 18The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel. 19Merari's sons: Mahli and Mushi. These are the Levite clans by their ancestral houses. 20Of Gershom: Libni his son, Jahath his son, Zimmah his son, 21Joah his son, Iddo his son, Zerah his son, Jeatherai his son. 22The descendants of Kohath: Amminadab his son, Korah his son, Assir his son, 23Elkanah his son, Ebiasaph his son, Assir his son, 24Tahath his son, Uriel his son, Uzziah his son, and Shaul his son. 25The sons of Elkanah: Amasai and Ahimoth, 26Elkanah his son, Zophai his son, Nahath his son, 27Eliab his son, Jeroham his son, Elkanah his son. 28The sons of Samuel: Joel the firstborn and Abijah the second. 29The sons of Merari: Mahli, Libni his son, Shimei his son, Uzzah his son, 30Shimea his son, Haggiah his son, and Asaiah his son.
31These are the men David put in charge of music in our Father's house after the ark came to rest. 32They served with song before the tabernacle, the tent of meeting, until Solomon built the house of our Father in Jerusalem, and they carried out their service according to their appointed order. 33These served, with their sons. From the Kohathites: Heman the singer, son of Joel, son of Samuel, 34the son of Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Eliel, the son of Toah, 35the son of Zuph, the son of Elkanah, the son of Mahath, the son of Amasai, 36the son of Elkanah, the son of Joel, the son of Azariah, the son of Zephaniah, 37the son of Tahath, the son of Assir, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah, 38the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, the son of Israel. 39His brother Asaph stood at Heman's right hand: Asaph son of Berekiah, son of Shimea, 40the son of Michael, the son of Baaseiah, the son of Malkijah, 41the son of Ethni, the son of Zerah, the son of Adaiah, 42the son of Ethan, the son of Zimmah, the son of Shimei, 43the son of Jahath, the son of Gershom, the son of Levi. 44On the left, their brothers, sons of Merari: Ethan son of Kishi, son of Abdi, son of Malluk, 45the son of Hashabiah, the son of Amaziah, the son of Hilkiah, 46the son of Amzi, the son of Bani, the son of Shemer, 47the son of Mahli, the son of Mushi, the son of Merari, the son of Levi.
48Their fellow Levites were appointed to all the service of the tabernacle, the house of our Father. 49But Aaron and his sons offered on the altar of burnt offering and on the altar of incense, doing all the work of the Most Holy Place and atoning for Israel, according to all that Moses the servant of our Father had commanded.
50These were the sons of Aaron: Eleazar his son, Phinehas his son, Abishua his son, 51Bukki his son, Uzzi his son, Zerahiah his son, 52Meraioth his son, Amariah his son, Ahitub his son, 53Zadok his son, and Ahimaaz his son.
54These were their dwelling places and settlements within their territory: Aaron's descendants of the Kohathite clan received the first lot, 55and they were given Hebron in the land of Judah, with its surrounding pasturelands. 56But they gave the fields of the city and its villages to Caleb the son of Jephunneh. 57So the descendants of Aaron were given the cities of refuge: Hebron, Libnah with its pasturelands, Jattir, Eshtemoa with its pasturelands, 58Hilen with its pasturelands, Debir with its pasturelands, 59Ashan with its pasturelands, and Beth-shemesh with its pasturelands. 60From the tribe of Benjamin: Geba, Alemeth, and Anathoth, each with pastureland—thirteen cities in all, by clan.
61The rest of the Kohathites were allotted ten cities from the clans of the half-tribe of Manasseh. 62The Gershomites, by clan, were given thirteen cities from Issachar, Asher, Naphtali, and the part of Manasseh in Bashan. 63The Merarites, clan by clan, were allotted twelve cities from the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and Zebulun. 64So the Israelites gave the Levites these cities, together with their pasturelands. 65From the tribes of Judah, Simeon, and Benjamin they allotted the cities named above.
66Some of the Kohathite clans were given as their territory cities from the tribe of Ephraim. 67They were given the cities of refuge: Shechem with pastureland in Ephraim's hill country, and Gezer with pastureland, 68Jokmeam with its pasturelands, Beth-horon with its pasturelands, 69Aijalon with its pasturelands, and Gath-rimmon with its pasturelands. 70From the half-tribe of Manasseh: Aner with its pasturelands and Bileam with its pasturelands, for the remaining Kohathite clans.
71The Gershomites received from the clan of the half-tribe of Manasseh: Golan in Bashan with its pasturelands, and Ashtaroth with its pasturelands, 72from the tribe of Issachar, Kedesh with its pasturelands, Daberath with its pasturelands, 73Ramoth with its pasturelands, and Anem with its pasturelands; 74from the tribe of Asher, Mashal with its pasturelands, Abdon with its pasturelands, 75Hukok with its pasturelands, and Rehob with its pasturelands; 76from the tribe of Naphtali: Kedesh in Galilee with pastureland, Hammon with pastureland, Kiriathaim with pastureland.
77The rest of the Merarites got, from Zebulun's tribe, Rimmono with its pastureland and Tabor with its pastureland, 78and across the Jordan, east of Jericho, from Reuben's tribe: Bezer in the wilderness with its pasturelands, Jahzah with its pasturelands, 79Kedemoth with its pasturelands, and Mephaath with its pasturelands; 80and from the tribe of Gad, Ramoth in Gilead with its pasturelands, Mahanaim with its pasturelands, 81Heshbon with its pasturelands, and Jazer with its pasturelands.
