Honor in Worship and Order
11 1 Be imitators of me, just as I also am of Christ.
2 Now I praise you because you remember me in everything and hold fast to the traditions, just as I delivered them to you. 3 But I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man, and the head of Christ is our Father. 4 Every man who prays or prophesies with a covering over his head dishonors his head. 5 But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head, for it is one and the same as having her head shaved. 6 For if a woman will not cover her head, then she should have her hair cut off; but since it is shameful for a woman to have her hair cut off or her head shaved, let her cover her head. 7 A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of our Father; but woman is the glory of man. 8 For man did not come from woman, but woman from man. 9 Neither was man created for the woman, but woman for the man. 10 For this reason a woman ought to have a sign of authority on her head, because of the angels.
11 Nevertheless, in the Lord woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent of woman. 12 For as woman came from man, so also man is born through woman; but everything comes from our Father. 13 Judge for yourselves: is it proper for a woman to pray to our Father with her head uncovered? 14 Does not nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair it is a dishonor to him, 15 but that if a woman has long hair it is her glory? For her hair is given to her as a covering. 16 But if anyone wants to argue about this, we have no such custom, nor do the churches of our Father.
The Lord's Table Dishonored
17 Now in giving this instruction I do not praise you, because when you come together you do more harm than good. 18 For in the first place, when you come together as a church, I hear that there are divisions among you, and in part I believe it. 19 For there must even be factions among you, so that those who are approved may become evident among you. 20 So then, when you come together in one place, it is not the Lord's Supper that you eat. 21 For as you eat, each one goes ahead with his own supper, and one stays hungry while another gets drunk. 22 Do you not have houses to eat and drink in? Or do you despise the church of our Father and humiliate those who have nothing? What shall I say to you? Shall I praise you? In this I do not praise you.
23 For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, 24 and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, "This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me." 25 In the same way he also took the cup after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me." 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.
27 Therefore whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. 28 Let a person examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 29 For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment on himself. 30 That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number have fallen asleep. 31 But if we judged ourselves rightly, we would not be judged. 32 But when we are judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined, so that we will not be condemned along with the world. 33 So then, my brothers and sisters, when you come together to eat, wait for one another. 34 If anyone is hungry, let him eat at home, so that when you come together it will not be for judgment. About the other matters I will give directions when I come.
