1 Peter 4

4 ¹ Therefore, since Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same resolve, because whoever has suffered in the flesh is done with sin. ² As a result, you no longer live out the rest of your time in the flesh for human cravings, but for the will of our Father. ³ For you have spent enough of your past time doing what those who don't know the Father want to do, living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing, and lawless idolatry. ⁴ They are surprised that you no longer rush with them into the same flood of reckless living, and so they heap abuse on you. ⁵ But they will give an account to the one who stands ready to judge the living and the dead. ⁶ This is why the gospel was preached even to those now dead, so that, though judged in the flesh as all people are, they might live in the spirit as our Father lives.

⁷ The end of all things is near. Therefore be clear-minded and self-controlled so that you can pray. ⁸ Above all, keep loving one another deeply, because love covers a multitude of sins. ⁹ Show hospitality to one another without grumbling. ¹⁰ Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as good stewards of our Father's varied grace. ¹¹ If anyone speaks, they should speak as one delivering the very words of our Father. If anyone serves, they should serve with the strength he supplies, so that in everything he may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen.

Suffering in the Father's Name

¹² Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. ¹³ Instead, rejoice to the extent that you share in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may also be overjoyed when his glory is revealed. ¹⁴ If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of our Father rests on you. ¹⁵ If you suffer, it should not be as a murderer or thief or any other kind of criminal, or even as a meddler in other people's affairs. ¹⁶ But if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise our Father that you bear that name. ¹⁷ For it is time for judgment to begin with the household of our Father; and if it begins with us, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of our Father? ¹⁸ And, "If it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?" ¹⁹ So then, those who suffer according to our Father's will should entrust their souls to their faithful Creator and continue to do good.
