1 Timothy 2

2 ¹ First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be offered for all people, ² for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may live a peaceful and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. ³ This is good and pleasing to our Father, our Savior, ⁴ who wants all people to be saved and to come to know the truth. ⁵ For there is one Father, and one mediator between the Father and humanity, the man Christ Jesus, ⁶ who gave himself as a ransom for all — the testimony given at the proper time. ⁷ For this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth. ⁸ I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or argument.

⁹ Likewise, women should dress in respectable clothing, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or expensive garments, ¹⁰ but with good works, as is right for women who profess reverence for our Father. ¹¹ A woman should learn quietly, in full submission. ¹² I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she should remain quiet. ¹³ For Adam was formed first, then Eve. ¹⁴ And Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and became a transgressor. ¹⁵ Yet she will be saved through childbearing, if they continue in faith and love and holiness, with self-control. ^a a v15 The pronoun shifts from 'she' to 'they' — as in the original — likely referring to women generally who continue in these virtues.
