Bringing Your Best
The grain offering is fine flour with oil and frankincense; a handful is burned and the rest feeds the priests. No yeast or honey, but salt always — the salt of your Father's covenant — so even the poorest gift carries the covenant on it.
2 1"When anyone brings a grain offering to our Father, the offering must be fine flour. Pour oil on it, put frankincense on it, 2and bring it to Aaron's sons, the priests. The priest will take a handful of its fine flour and oil, with all its frankincense, and burn the memorial portion on the altar—a fire offering, a pleasing aroma to our Father. a a v2 The memorial portion was the handful the priest burned on the altar, standing for the whole offering as it rose to our Father. 3The rest of the grain offering belongs to Aaron and his sons—most holy, from the fire offerings to our Father.
4"When you bring a grain offering baked in an oven: fine flour, either loaves without yeast mixed with oil, or wafers without yeast spread with oil. 5If your offering is a grain offering on a griddle, it must be fine flour mixed with oil, without yeast. 6Break it into pieces and pour oil on it; it is a grain offering. 7If your offering is grain cooked in a pan, make it with fine flour and oil. 8Bring the grain offering made from these to our Father; present it to the priest, who brings it to the altar. 9The priest takes the grain offering's memorial portion and burns it on the altar—a fire offering, a pleasing aroma to our Father. 10What remains of the grain offering belongs to Aaron and his sons—most holy, from the fire offerings to our Father.
11"No grain offering you bring to our Father may contain yeast, for you must not burn any yeast or honey as a fire offering to our Father. 12You may bring them to our Father as a firstfruits offering, but do not offer them on the altar as a pleasing aroma. 13Salt every grain offering. Don't leave out your Father's covenant salt; add salt to all your offerings. b b v13 Salt preserved food and never spoiled, so a "covenant of salt" pictured a bond with our Father that endures and cannot be broken.
14"If you bring a firstfruits grain offering to our Father, offer new grain roasted in fire, crushed kernels, as your firstfruits offering. 15Put oil on it and lay frankincense on it; it is a grain offering. 16The priest burns the memorial portion—some of the crushed grain and oil—with all its frankincense, as a fire offering to our Father."
