A Rhythm of Coming Near
The calendar of offerings is fixed: two lambs every day, doubled on the Sabbath, more at each new moon, through Passover and Unleavened Bread to the Feast of Weeks. Coming near their Father is not left to mood — it has a set time.
28 1Our Father said to Moses,
2"Command the Israelites, say to them: Be sure to present my offering, my food for my food offerings, a pleasing aroma to me, at its set time. 3Say to them: This is the food offering you are to present to me: two flawless year-old lambs daily, a regular burnt offering. 4Offer one lamb in the morning, the second lamb at twilight, 5with about two quarts of fine flour for a grain offering, mixed with about one quart of pressed oil. 6A regular burnt offering, ordained at Mount Sinai for a pleasing aroma, a food offering to me. 7Its drink offering is a quart for each lamb; pour it out to me in the holy place as strong drink. 8Offer the second lamb at twilight, with a grain offering and drink offering like the morning's, a food offering, a pleasing aroma to me.
9"On the Sabbath, offer two flawless year-old lambs, about four quarts of fine flour mixed with oil as grain offering, plus its drink offering. 10The burnt offering for each Sabbath, besides the regular burnt offering and its drink offering.
Each New Month
11"On the first of each of your months, offer me a burnt offering: two young bulls, one ram, seven male lambs a year old, without defect, 12about six quarts of fine flour mixed with oil as a grain offering for each bull, about four quarts of fine flour mixed with oil as a grain offering for the one ram, 13and two quarts of fine flour mixed with oil as a grain offering for each lamb - a burnt offering, a pleasing aroma, a food offering to me. 14Their drink offerings: two quarts of wine for the bull, just over a quart for the ram, and a quart for the lamb. This is the burnt offering for the new moon, month by month, all year. 15Offer me one male goat as a sin offering, besides the regular burnt offering and its drink offering.
Passover
16"In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month, is the Passover to me. 17On this month's fifteenth day is a feast; bread without yeast is eaten seven days. 18On the first day there is to be a holy assembly; you must do no ordinary work. 19Present me a food offering, a burnt offering: two young bulls, one ram, seven yearling male lambs; see that they are without defect. 20Their grain offering: fine flour mixed with oil—about six quarts for the bull, four quarts for the ram, 21and with each of the seven lambs, about two quarts; 22and one male goat as a sin offering to make atonement for you. 23Offer these in addition to the morning burnt offering, which is the regular burnt offering. 24Do this daily for seven days—food, a pleasing aroma to me—besides the regular burnt offering and its drink offering. 25On the seventh day you are to hold a holy assembly; you must do no ordinary work.
The Feast of Weeks
26"On the day of firstfruits, when you bring me a new grain offering at your Feast of Weeks, hold a holy assembly; do no ordinary work. 27Present a burnt offering, a pleasing aroma to me: two young bulls, one ram, seven year-old male lambs. 28With them comes a grain offering of fine flour mixed with oil: about six quarts for each bull, about four quarts for the one ram, 29and about two quarts for each of the seven lambs; 30with one male goat to make atonement for you. 31Offer these besides the regular burnt offering and its grain offering; see that they're flawless, with their drink offerings."
