Our Father Speaks
The borders of Canaan are drawn — south from the Zin wilderness, west the Mediterranean, north to Hazar-enan, east down the Jordan to the Dead Sea — and one leader from each tribe is named to divide the inheritance with Eleazar and Joshua.
34 1And our Father spoke to Moses, saying,
2"command the Israelites: when you enter the land of Canaan, this is the land that will fall to you as inheritance—the land of Canaan, within its borders. 3Your south side runs from the Zin wilderness along Edom's edge; your south border starts at the Dead Sea's end, eastward. 4Your border will turn south of the Ascent of Akrabbim, cross to Zin, reach south of Kadesh-barnea, go on to Hazar-addar, and pass to Azmon. 5From Azmon the border turns to Egypt's Brook, ending at the Sea.
6"Your western border will be the Mediterranean Sea and its coast. a a v6 The Great Sea is the Mediterranean.
7"This will be your north border: from the Mediterranean Sea draw your line to Mount Hor. 8From Mount Hor mark a line to Lebo-hamath, ending at Zedad; 9then the border will extend to Ziphron and end at Hazar-enan. This will be your northern border.
10"You will mark out your eastern border from Hazar-enan to Shepham. 11The border will go down from Shepham to Riblah, east of Ain, then go down and reach the slope east of the Sea of Chinnereth. b b v11 The Sea of Chinnereth is the lake later called the Sea of Galilee. 12The border goes down to the Jordan, ending at the Dead Sea. This will be your land, with its borders all around."
13Moses commanded the Israelites: This is the land you will inherit by lot, which our Father commanded to give to the nine tribes and the half-tribe. 14The tribe of Reuben's sons, by their fathers' houses, and the tribe of Gad's sons, by their fathers' houses, have already taken their inheritance; so has the half-tribe of Manasseh. 15The two and a half tribes received their inheritance across the Jordan from Jericho, eastward toward the sunrise.
Our Father Speaks Again
16And our Father spoke to Moses, saying,
17"names of the men who will divide the land for you as inheritance: Eleazar the priest and Joshua son of Nun. 18And you will take one leader from each tribe to divide the land for inheritance. 19These are the names of the men: from the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh; 20from the tribe of the sons of Simeon, Shemuel the son of Ammihud; 21from the tribe of Benjamin, Elidad the son of Chislon; 22from the tribe of the sons of Dan, a leader, Bukki the son of Jogli; 23from Joseph's sons: from Manasseh's tribe, leader Hanniel son of Ephod, 24and from the tribe of the sons of Ephraim, a leader, Kemuel the son of Shiphtan; 25from the tribe of the sons of Zebulun, a leader, Elizaphan the son of Parnach; 26from the tribe of the sons of Issachar, a leader, Paltiel the son of Azzan; 27from the tribe of the sons of Asher, a leader, Ahihud the son of Shelomi; 28and from the tribe of the sons of Naphtali, a leader, Pedahel the son of Ammihud."
29These are the ones our Father commanded to divide the inheritance among the children of Israel in the land of Canaan.
