Seated at the Right Hand
A psalm of David.
110 1 Our Father said to my Lord — Jesus: "Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet." a a v1 Jesus quoted this verse to expose how the religious leaders had missed who the Messiah is — Matt 22:44, Mark 12:36, Luke 20:42. The New Testament names Jesus as the one our Father seated at his right hand — Acts 2:34, Heb 1:13, Heb 10:12-13.
2 Our Father will extend your mighty scepter from Zion: rule in the midst of your enemies! 3 Your people will offer themselves freely on the day of your power, arrayed in holy splendor. From the womb of the dawn, the dew of your youth will be yours. b b v3 From the womb of the dawn, the dew of your youth: as dew is born fresh and abundant from the dawn, so your vitality will be endlessly renewed.
4 Our Father has sworn and will not change his mind: "You are a priest forever, after the order of Melchizedek." c c v4 Hebrews applies this oath directly to Jesus — Heb 5:6, 7:17, 7:21. Jesus is the eternal priest-king after the order of Melchizedek, sworn in by our Father himself.
5 The Sovereign Father is at your right hand; he will shatter kings on the day of his wrath. 6 He will judge among the nations, heaping up the dead; he will shatter the chief over the wide earth. 7 He will drink from the brook along the way; therefore he will lift up his head.
