Psalms 16

Book

Keep Me Safe

A golden psalm of David.

Chapter 16.

Keep me safe, my Father, for in you I take refuge.

I say to my Father: You are my Sovereign Father; apart from you, I have nothing good. As for the holy ones in the land, they are the noble ones in whom I find all my delight. The sorrows of those who run after another god will multiply; I will not pour out their drink offerings of blood, nor let their names pass my lips.

My Father is my chosen portion and my cup; you hold my lot secure. The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a beautiful inheritance.

I will bless my Father, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me. I keep my Father always before me; because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.

Therefore my heart is glad and my whole being rejoices; my body also will rest secure. For you will not abandon my soul to the grave, nor will you let your holy one see decay. a a v10 Peter at Pentecost (Acts 2:25-28) and Paul (Acts 13:35) applied these words to Jesus — David's confidence in our Father became the Son's rising from death, his body never seeing decay. You show me the path of life; in your presence is fullness of joy, at your right hand are pleasures forever.
