Romans 6

6 ¹ What shall we say, then? Should we go on sinning so that grace may increase? ² Absolutely not! How can we who died to sin still live in it? ³ Or do you not know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? ⁴ We were buried with him, then, through baptism into death, so that just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of our Father, we too might walk in newness of life.

⁵ For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection. ⁶ We know this: that our old self was crucified with him, so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, and we would no longer be enslaved to sin. ⁷ For anyone who has died has been set free from sin. ⁸ Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. ⁹ For we know that Christ, having been raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has mastery over him. ¹⁰ For the death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to our Father. ¹¹ In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to our Father in Christ Jesus.

¹² Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its desires. ¹³ Do not offer the parts of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; instead, offer yourselves to our Father as those brought from death to life, and offer the parts of your body to him as instruments of righteousness. ¹⁴ For sin will not have mastery over you, because you are not under law but under grace.

¹⁵ What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Absolutely not! ¹⁶ Do you not know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey — whether of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness? ¹⁷ But thanks be to our Father that, though you used to be slaves of sin, you obeyed from the heart the pattern of teaching to which you were entrusted. ¹⁸ Having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.

¹⁹ I am speaking in human terms because of your human limitations. For just as you offered the parts of your body as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now offer them as slaves to righteousness leading to holiness. ²⁰ For when you were slaves of sin, you were free from righteousness. ²¹ What fruit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? For the end of those things is death. ²² But now, having been set free from sin and enslaved to our Father, you reap the fruit that leads to holiness, and the end is eternal life. ²³ For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of our Father is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
