Romans 5

5 ¹ Therefore, since we have been made right with our Father by faith, we have peace with him through our Lord Jesus Christ, ² through whom we have also obtained our access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in the hope of our Father's glory. ³ And not only that, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, ⁴ and endurance produces character, and character produces hope; ⁵ and hope does not put us to shame, because our Father's love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

⁶ For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. ⁷ For hardly anyone would die for a righteous person, though perhaps for a good person someone might even dare to die. ⁸ But our Father shows his own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. ^a a v8 Our Father proves his love at the cross — by giving his Son for us while we were still far from him.

⁹ Much more then, having now been made right by his blood, we will be saved through him from the coming judgment. ¹⁰ For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to our Father through the death of his Son, much more, having been reconciled, we will be saved by his life. ¹¹ And not only that, but we also rejoice in our Father through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

Death Through Adam, Life Through Christ

¹² Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all people, because all sinned ¹³ —for sin was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not counted where there is no law. ¹⁴ Yet death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those whose sinning was not like the transgression of Adam, who is a type of the one to come.

¹⁵ But the free gift is not like the sin. For if many died through one man's sin, much more have our Father's grace and the free gift through the grace of the one man Jesus Christ abounded for many. ¹⁶ And the free gift is not like the result of that one man's sin. For the judgment following one sin brought condemnation, but the free gift following many sins brought justification. ¹⁷ For if, because of one man's sin, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ.

¹⁸ So then, as one sin led to condemnation for all people, so also one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all people. ¹⁹ For just as by the one man's disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man's obedience the many will be made righteous. ²⁰ Now the law came in so that everyone could see the magnitude of their sin, but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, ²¹ so that, as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign through righteousness leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
