3 1 On my bed through the night I sought the one my soul loves; I sought him, but I did not find him. 2 Now I will rise and roam the city, through the streets and the squares; I will seek the one my soul loves. I sought him, but I did not find him. 3 The watchmen found me as they made their rounds of the city. "Have you seen the one my soul loves? 4 I had barely passed them when I found the one my soul loves. I held him and would not let him go until I had brought him to my mother's house, to the room of the one who conceived me. 5 I charge you, daughters of Jerusalem, by the gazelles and the does of the field: do not stir up or awaken love until it pleases.
6 Who is this coming up from the wilderness like columns of smoke, perfumed with myrrh and frankincense, with all the fragrant powders of the merchant? 7 Look — it is Solomon's own carriage, with sixty mighty men around it, of the mighty men of Israel, 8 all of them holding swords, trained for battle, each with his sword at his side, against the terror of the night. 9 King Solomon made himself a carriage from the wood of Lebanon. 10 He made its posts of silver, its back of gold, its seat of purple; its interior was lovingly inlaid by the daughters of Jerusalem. 11 Come out, daughters of Zion, and gaze on King Solomon, wearing the crown his mother set on him on his wedding day, on the day his heart rejoiced.
