Our Refuge and Strength
For the director of music. Of the sons of Korah. According to Alamoth. A song.
46 1 Our Father is our refuge and strength, a help always near in times of trouble. 2 So we will not fear, though the earth gives way and the mountains topple into the heart of the sea, 3 though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains quake at its surging. Selah.
4 There is a river whose streams bring joy to the city of our Father, the holy dwelling of the Most High. 5 Our Father is within her; she will not be shaken. Our Father will help her at the break of dawn. 6 Nations rage, kingdoms totter; he lifts his voice, and the earth melts away. 7 The Father of heaven's armies is with us; the Father of Jacob is our fortress. Selah. a a v7 "The Father of heaven's armies" renders a Hebrew title for the commander of all heaven's hosts — the same Father who is the unshakable stronghold of his people.
8 Come, see the works of our Father, who has brought such devastation on the earth. 9 He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth; he breaks the bow and snaps the spear, he burns the shields with fire.
10 "Be still, and know that I am the Father. I will be exalted among the nations; I will be exalted in the earth." b b v10 Other translations read "know that I am God"; FHB hears the Father revealing his own name, calling even the raging nations to cease striving and know him as Father.
11 The Father of heaven's armies is with us; the Father of Jacob is our fortress. Selah.
