Psalms 47

Book

Clap Your Hands, All Nations

For the director of music. A psalm of the sons of Korah.

Chapter 47.

Clap your hands, all you peoples! Shout to our Father with cries of joy! For our Father Most High is awesome, a great King over all the earth. He subdues peoples under us, and nations under our feet. He chose our inheritance for us, the pride of Jacob whom he loves. Selah. a a v4 'The pride of Jacob' means the Promised Land — the inheritance Jacob's people treasured above all else.

Our Father has gone up amid shouts of joy, our Father amid the sound of the ram's horn. Sing praises to our Father, sing praises! Sing praises to our King, sing praises! For our Father is King of all the earth; sing praises with a skillful psalm. Our Father reigns over the nations; our Father sits on his holy throne. The princes of the peoples gather as the people of our Father of Abraham. For the shields of the earth belong to our Father; he is highly exalted. b b v9 'Shields' is a poetic word for rulers and kings — those who lead and defend their peoples.
