Psalms 63

Book

Thirsting for You

A psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah.

Chapter 63.

My Father, you are my Father; I seek you with all my heart. My soul thirsts for you, my whole body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water. So I have gazed on you in the sanctuary and seen your power and your glory. Because your covenant love is better than life, my lips will praise you. So I will bless you as long as I live; in your name I will lift up my hands. My soul is satisfied as with the richest of foods, and with joyful lips my mouth praises you.

When I remember you on my bed, and meditate on you through the long hours of the night. For you have been my help, and in the shadow of your wings I sing for joy. My soul clings to you; your right hand holds me fast.

But those who seek to destroy my life will go down into the depths of the earth. They will be given over to the sword; they will become food for jackals. But the king will rejoice in our Father; all who swear by him will exult, for the mouths of liars will be silenced.
