Psalms 91

Book

Safe in the Shadow

Chapter 91.

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

I will say of my Father, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my Father, in whom I trust."

Surely he will rescue you from the hunter's trap and from deadly disease. He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is your shield and rampart. You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the disease that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that ravages at noon. A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. You will only look on and see the punishment of the wicked.

Because you have made my Father your refuge— the Most High your dwelling place— no evil will overtake you, no plague will come near your tent. For he will command his angels concerning you, to guard you in all your ways. a a v11 When the tempter challenged Jesus in the wilderness, he quoted this very verse — twisting a promise of the Father's protection into a dare. Jesus, the true Son, trusted his Father without testing him. They will hold you up with their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the young lion and the serpent underfoot.

"Because he clings to me in love, I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he knows my name. He will call to me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation."
